Agoes Chaya Hartono was finally elected as Widya Kartika University’s President of Student Executive Board (BEM) period 2013-2014. He outperformed four other candidates in the election process which was opened to all students of UWIKA, Thursday, June 13, 2013. Thus, candidate with number 1 was officially replaced Anawati Sutanto, the president of BEM 2012-2013, to lead the organizations during the year ahead.

The vote was absolutely won by this student from English Department. Compared to his closest competitor in the runner-up position, Agoes won 52 points ahead from a total of 146 voters. Half or more than 50 percent of college students gave their voting rights for Agoes.

During his speechto convey his vision-mission, Agoes stated that the organization would focus on the proficiency level in terms of solidity. Because, according to him, togetherness and/or solidity in an organization were the biggest capital for success. “If all is solid, we can also carry out work programs and focus better. Hopefully, what we aspire can be realized, “he said.

In the BEM Presidential election, there were five candidates, including Agoes. The other four were Andreas JP, Intan Puspa Dewi, Trifena Prayogo, and Victoria Elizabeth S. All five were given the opportunity to explain what they would do if they were elected. In front of about 200 people, including university’s leaders, employees, and students, they gave speeches with passionately.

Andreas JP confessed that he would put more emphasis on networking works program if he were elected. Because, by emphasising on relationships, it would have a positive impact for campus. “The point is, students should be able to bring real change impacts for institutions and our campus,” he said. Meanwhile, another candidate,Intan Puspa Dewi rather focused on increasing the intensity of student activities. Thus, from these activities, students and campus could show its existence.

On the other hand, Trifena Prayogo, one of the candidates for President of the BEM, conveyed, if shw were elected, she would build familiarity for enhancing student’s achievements, both academic and non-academic. “We will work with UKM to look for talented students who can participate in competitions outside,” she said.

in addition, Victoria Elizabeth S, the candidate with the number 5 wanted the students to actively take part in activities or competitions outside campus. Besides, if she were elected, she even wanted to make BEM as a facilitator between students and campus. “BEM will try to be the bridge between students and stake holders in Uwika,” she said.

Meanwhile, Uwika’s Rector, Dr. Murpin Josua Sembiring, S.E, M.Sc. advised that the new president of BEM could work together in building qualified students. In addition, he also said that the presidential election process by voting was a lesson about democracy. “All elements must take a role in raising Uwika including students. One possible solution is to actively participate in the organization, “he said.
